Pumenwanfobaota Pagoda


Pumenwanfobaota Pagoda was a key project approved by the provincial government in Zhoushan City. In 2002 the construction was started. In June of 2006 construction was finished. This is another landmark of Mount Putuo. It consists of Pagoda, Temple, Memorial Archway and affiliated building etc. Its total area is 29mus. It is atypical Buddhist building imitating ancient style. Pagoda is 72.26m high and with nine f1oors and 13 eaves. It has a bronze top and bronze decoration pieces. Its altar is made of mahogany. The balusters around the pagoda are made of white marble or Indian red stone. 10,000 statues of Guanyin in different reincarnations are enshrined in the pagoda. Therefore the pagoda is named Pumenwanfobaota Pagoda (Pumen Ten Thousand Buddha Pagoda). The principal statue of Guanyin is made of gold. Statues on the ninth floor are made of silver. Statues on other floors are made of bronze and gilded. Memorial Archway is made completely of white marble. It is 9.9m high and 10.9m wide. 365 stone steps lead to the pagoda.
