Fanyindong Temple
Fanyindong Temple ls located at the west end of Qinggulei.
It was the abode of Monk Jizhu, the former abbot of Fayu Monastery in Ming Dynasty, after his retiring (in 1629). Monk Pufu and his disciple Bowen overhauled it in 1686. Emperor Kangxi wrote Chinese characters for the horizontal tablet “Fan Yin Dong” (Brahma Voice Cave) in 1699. Prince Baichali wrote Chinese characters for the horizontal tablet “ Luo Jia Sheng Jing”(Beautiful scenery of Mount Luojia). Emperor Yongzheng bestowed money and gilded censers to the new hall in 1731. Later it was in disrepair. Monk Liangyu and his disciple Xingchun rebuilt it during the period between 1862 and 1874.
In 1985 Buddhist Association started its reconstruction. A 4.5 m high gilded statue of standing Guanyin is enshrined in its main hall. There is Fanyindong Cave near to the coast to the southeast of it. The cave is with 80 m-odd high wall and is 2-4 m wide. Sea water moves in or out of it making thunderous sound. According to a legend, some pilgrims have seen appearance of Guanyin. The Zhansheng(Looking at Saint) Pavilion where the statue of Doro Guanyin worshiped in Vulture Peak of Taiwan is enshrined was built above the cave. Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty had written Chinese characters “Fan Yin Dong” which was carved on the rock later. It has 43 rooms of bui1dings and 1,118 m2 of building area.
